School Profile
My school is located in within the City of Rockingham, approximately 45km south of Perth. It was established in 1987 and has a proud and rich history. The school has roughly 400 primary aged students with 58 staff comprising 34 teaching staff, 12 education assistants (including Special Needs Assistants) and 12 administrative, cleaning and gardening staff.
The school's facilities include three teaching blocks including special purpose withdrawal areas, two demountable classrooms, two separate, well equipped and specially designed specialist Visual Arts and Performing Arts rooms, a Library/Resource Centre and two purpose built Kindergarten classrooms. An Administration Centre, undercover assembly area housing the school canteen which operates every day of the week and expansive ovals, playground, court and grassed areas round off an aesthetically appealing and very functional learning environment. My school offers specialist programmes which complement the students' comprehensive classroom learning programmes. Every primary student engages in specialist Physical Education, Indonesian, Music or Performing Arts and Visual Arts. Students' performances and artefacts in each of these areas have been successfully and spectacularly put on show in interschool sporting competitions, state drama competitions, school choir festivals and art exhibitions.
The school is well resourced and via classroom and computer laboratory facilities offers students extensive opportunities to integrate technology into their learning. The school employs a Technician one day per week to support and maintain its growing and integrated technologies. The school has a proud tradition of providing an inclusive educational program for all students. The school's Education Support Unit is fully integrated into the mainstream classroom programme with support from the specialist Education Support staff. This unique approach has resulted in improved social and academic outcomes for all students and is a model of inclusivity that has drawn widespread praise from educators and parents.

My year two class has a total of 20 students with the academic ability of my students ranging from very low to very high. My reading and spelling groups were separated into five groups, extremely low, low, middle and high and very high. This was to ensure each lesson was catering to each students academic needs. Two of my students faced learning disabilities and two of my students required frequent medication (both with ADD). Overall, my school is classified as a "hard to staff" school as teachers find the environment quite difficult to work within at times. On a regular basis, the school challenges with difficult family backgrounds and alcohol/drug abuse at home. This of course transitions into the classroom with some students bringing in difficult and challenging behaviour that can effect the classroom environment at times. Although this was the case, the school teachers, administration and of course the students were a pleasure to accompany on this journey of mine. The school's policies and administration team work in such a way, that if anything challenging did arise, it was swiftly taken care of. It was a pleasure to have been working with such a well knitted cohort of staff!
