WHY IS STANDARD TWO VALUABLE?
As a future teacher, it is essential to know and understand the content within the SCASA curriculum and how to teach it to my students. The SCASA curriculm is widespread and can pose quite a challenge to interpret data across all year levels, however, this is something that we as teachers need to know and understand before entering the classroom. If we don't understand the content, how will we teach it? In order for teachers to "teach" students effectively, and to ensure that they display an understanding of the concepts within the curriculum, I have found it practical throughout my FPE1/2 to thoroughly preplan my lessons, research the content and carefully select and collect useful and relevant resources, before I step into the classroom and begin to teach. This process has held me in good stead within my classroom practices and has allowed me to feel confident teaching any subject to my class during my FPE 1/2.

Action Plan - Moving Forward
- In order to develop a better understanding of the content within the English curriculum (which I believe is necessary in my case), I aim to attend Professional Development provided by the Australian Literacy Educators' Association, who constantly conduct classes for graduate teachers across Australia. I think this process would significantly improve my confidence and ability in teaching English within my classroom.
- As a specialist Physical education teacher, I have since joined the ACHPER community and mailing list. It is important for me to stay in touch and consistently improve on my understanding of the Physical Education curriculum. Members of ACHPER can gain access to professional development workshops and clinics run by them. This is a great initiative and one I believe will keep me in the loop with everything PE.
- Within the school I will be based at, I will continue to pick the brains of other well established teachers, as other teachers within the school could offer a unique perspective on my teaching styles and practices. Through effective communication, I could gain some useful insights into the content I am teaching and alternative ways of teaching it to my students.
