WHY IS STANDARD SIX VALUABLE?
As times and generations change, it is important for us as educators to change also. It is easy for teachers to become complacent by the grind of teaching. Professional development gives teachers an opportunity to step out of their routine and see the world as a student rather than as a teacher. This keeps teachers engaged because they feel like they are receiving the professional help they require in becoming better or more effective teachers. Professional development expands the talents of teachers and are given the opportunity to learn from other experienced teachers to become effective future educators themselves. Implementing professional development for teachers has benefits for both the teachers and the students, but most importantly, it helps teachers become better educators and develop into leaders of the field within their school. Through continuing education after university, teachers can constantly improve upon their skills and become more proficient within the classroom.

Action Plan - Moving Forward
- As a graduate teacher now, I will continue to be involved in professional learning over term four and into the future. As I am currently contracted for Term 4 at my school, I have been asked to attend a professional development day on the first day of Term 4. As stated earlier, these development days are crucial for teaching development and improvement.
- Certainly as a graduate teacher there are always things we can improve upon. Personally, I think that there can never be enough development done within the field of teaching. There is always something new to learn. The Department of Education provides helpful development days in which us graduate teachers can attend, to develop our teaching practices. I certainly intend on enrolling in some of these workshops.
- Within the school I will be based at, I will continue to approach other well established teachers, as other teachers within the school could offer opinions or tips on how to develop yourself as a teacher. I would approach other teachers to observe some of my lessons and perhaps offer some advice on what I can change to better the outcomes intended. This process would give me some useful feedback in which I can take onboard and make changes accordingly.
